Australia Awards Scholarships
Australia Awards Scholarships are long term development awards administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
They aim to contribute to the long term development needs of Australia's partner countries in line with bilateral and regional agreements.
They provide opportunities for people from developing countries, particularly those countries located in the Indo-Pacific region, to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions.
The study and research opportunities provided by Australia Awards Scholarships develop skills and knowledge of individuals to drive change and contribute to the development outcomes of their own country.
The Awards are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian higher education institution, including any preparatory training. The following benefits generally apply:

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have announced their long term development awards, Australia Awards Scholarships, which were previously known as Australian Development Scholarships. Under this scholarship program, students from Australia’s partner countries, more specifically from the Indo-Pacific region (with the list of the countries listed in the link below) will be provided with opportunities to study in some of the most reputed institutions in Australia as managed by the Australian Government. The interested will be applying to study full-time Bachelors or Masters Program at several Australian Universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions. The main objective of this scholarship program is improvement of the various conditions of the partner countries the students come from and because of this reason, the selected students, upon the completion of their study in Australia will be required to return to their respective home countries.
A limited number of scholarship seats have been allocated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The recipients of this scholarship scheme will have the total academic expenditures, accommodation costs, Overseas Students Health Cover (OSHC), travel expenditure and other costs including fieldwork, Pre-course English, etc. costs covered. The scholarship scheme will cover the costs mentioned for the minimum period required for completion of the program chosen by the recipient.
To be eligible for this scholarship program, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
The applicant must show commitment to returning to his/her home nation for a period of at least 2 years upon completion of the program he/she is admitted in. The Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships and fellowships funded by the Australian Government that aim to contribute to the long term development needs of Australia's partner countries, in line with bilateral and regional agreements.
Australia’s international development assistance in Nepal aims to alleviate poverty and provide a peace dividend by focusing on service delivery in the, education, health and water resource management sectors and by providing jobs through micro-enterprise development. Most of Australia's assistance to Nepal is delivered through the Government of Nepal and in partnership with other donors and multilateral organisations.
Australia Awards are an important component of Australia’s international development assistance. The awards aim to contribute to the long-term needs of developing countries by providing opportunities for individuals to obtain qualifications at Australian tertiary institutions.
Australia Awards Scholarships are prestigious international awards offered by the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development. Through study and research, awardees develop the skills and knowledge to drive change and help build enduring people-to-people links with Australia. Applicants are assessed for their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development challenges in Nepal. Recipients must return home to assist Nepal for at least two years following completion of their studies to contribute to the development of Nepal. Applications are strongly encouraged from eligible women, people with disability and people from traditionally marginalised groups and remote regions of Nepal.
Application Deadline
Applications for Master’s and PhD studies for the intake commencing academic year 2016 open on 1 February 2015 close at 5pm (Kathmandu time) on 30 April 2015. Applications received after this time will not be accepted.
